Correct. It is not a tessellation.

 

This pattern is not an example of a tessellation. The pattern has gaps.

Each rectangle is made up of 50 cubes. Every other series of rectangles (forms steps) is 1/4" different than its neighboring pattern... but every other rectangle series matches.

Some of the cubes have figures inside. There are also figures outside of the cubes and on top of the rectangles.
