 |
Planet Earth: Tessellation as a Design Tool
Information on tessellations is obtained by exploring an interactive CD
and viewing a video relating to the work of M.C. Escher. Students
practice making tessellations within the guidelines of the CD. |
 |
Paper Planet:
Tessellation Design Using Traditional Tools
Students produce a finished sketch of a tessellation using
traditional materials such as paper and pencil. |
 |
Shape
Shifters:
Tessellations and
Graphics Software
Students complete the hands-on activities of
the Planet Earth and/or
Paper Planet
using computer
graphics software for drawing and painting. In this way students learn
to transfer knowledge of traditional media to digital media. Students explore the tools of the graphics software by completing a
series of exercises that not only increases in difficulty but also
decreases the number of detailed instructions as the students work
through the module. |
 |
Quilt Quasars:
Tessellations Into Fabric Art
Students complete the
hands-on activities of
Planet Earth
using computer graphics software for
quilt design. Students design and color tessellation quilt patterns,
and complete a project with fabric that incorporates their final
designs.
