George Fulda

I am the youngest son of a family of immigrants.  Well educated immigrants, but immigrants none-the-less.  My mother is a full-blooded Sicilian housewife.  My father is a political science professor nearing retirement age.  My older brother is a church organist with a D. Ph. (Doctorate in Public Health) that he uses not at all.  Nevertheless, I am the last male in my family without a doctorate.

As an undergraduate, I started as a government major at Georgetown University.  After working for two years in the U.S. House of Representatives, I realized that I could never devote my life to politics, where so little change is effected even with enormous efforts.  Thus, I combined two of greatest academic passions and created my own Interdisciplinary major of Russian Theater.  I was able to spend a semester abroad in Russia studying with some of the finest artistic minds in Moscow.

I returned to West Virginia and began work on a B.A. in Music Education at Fairmont State.  I worked away for three years getting up to student teaching.    Fortunately, or unfortunately, I realized that I did not have the patience or temperament to be a high school choral director for the rest of my life.  I did, however, have another momentous occurrence in my life at this time:  I got married.

My bride was a Speech/Theater major at Fairmont State who greatly inspired me to do whatever my heart desired.  She encouraged me to follow my dreams, whatever they may be.  She supported the idea of quitting my pursuit of being a music teacher and helped me start a business of new passion, Web Design.  I eventually finished enough credits to receive my R.BA.

Despite this success, my business acumen left a lot to be desired.  I was failing as an entrepreneur.  Out of desperation, I went to a temp agency (and became a Kelly girl).  My first assignment was as a teacher at a local technical college.  I taught web design and basic networking.  I performed well enough to be offered a full-time teaching position.

I found that I enjoyed and excelled at teaching at the college level.  After two years of teaching, I began to take on some administrative duties.  Eventually, I became Program Chair for the Computer Information Management department.  After several months in this position, I realized that I enjoyed administrative work and decided to pursue graduate work.  I began my Masters program in EDLS (Higher Education) at WVU.  After several months in this position, I rose to the position if Director of Education.  Six months ago, our corporate office made the decision to close down our campus (for financial reasons).  The timing worked out perfectly for me to teach out the school, and purse my doctorate at the same time.
